### Miradouro da Grota do Inferno

The **Miradouro da Grota do Inferno** (also known as Miradouro da Boca do Inferno) is one of the most famous and widely used spots in the promotion of the Azores in various media. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places to visit on the island of São Miguel, offering an otherworldly panoramic view.

From this viewpoint, you can simultaneously observe multiple lagoons in the Sete Cidades area. In fact, you can see four lagoons from the viewpoint: the Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa de Santiago, and Lagoa do Canário.

In addition to the lagoons, you will also have a privileged view of part of the parish of Sete Cidades and the Serra Devassa.

Situated at an altitude of 730 meters, it also allows you to see the ocean over the surrounding mountains. The landscape is simply magical.

To reach this must-see spot on São Miguel Island, you should enter through the Parque Florestal da Mata do Canário. Be mindful of the park’s operating hours, indicated at the entrance.

You can enter on foot or by car. If the park is closed, many people venture on a short hike to reach the fantastic view from the Miradouro da Grota do Inferno.

### How to Get to Miradouro da Grota do Inferno

#### By Car from Ponta Delgada
**Starting from Ponta Delgada**

Begin your journey towards Sete Cidades. In the parish of Relva, turn towards Covoada / Sete Cidades. Along the way, you will find several points of interest and viewpoints. We recommend stopping to appreciate the view. The first viewpoint you will encounter is the Miradouro do Pico do Carvão, where you will have a panoramic view of the entire northern area of São Miguel Island.

Continuing on the road, you will find Lagoas Empadadas on your left. Take the opportunity to explore these fantastic lagoons. You are almost at your destination.

A little further ahead, you will see Lagoa do Canário on your right. Park in this area and head towards the gate (the path is on foot). The Miradouro da Grota do Inferno is a few – just a few – minutes away on the first left turn in this area.

You will find a steep staircase leading up. At the end of the climb, you are at the fantastic viewpoint. Enjoy your visit and the landscapes.
