João Moniz – Azorean Musician
His name is João Moniz, he is from Ponta Garça, Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel Island, and he started in the world of music at a very young age.
At the age of 6, he had already begun his journey with guitar lessons at the Vila Franca do Campo Music Academy, later joining the Regional Conservatory of Ponta Delgada. He is currently a collaborator at the Academia das Expressões.
In 2012, he took his first steps performing small solo concerts in various bars on São Miguel Island. Over time, he has been part of various projects across different musical genres, allowing him to perform several times for the audience in São Miguel up to the present day.
He began composing in 2011 but only at the end of 2017 did he decide to give his songs a chance. He was one of the nationally selected artists for the “Antena 1 Masterclass” in 2018, but due to personal reasons, he could not participate.
In addition to continuing to perform solo, he plays with the “The Daydreamers”, a project started in 2018 that has already graced stages such as the “Festival da Povoação,” “São João da Vila”, and will make its debut on August 8 at the “Monte Verde Festival.”

At the beginning of 2019, he recorded the song “Saudade” and, with more original tracks, he entered the “One Step 4 Music Fest,” a national contest that allows the winner to be part of the lineup for the iconic “Meo SUDOESTE” festival, where he was one of the 6 finalists who competed in Lisbon, from which he emerged victorious. He performed at the “Meo SUDOESTE” on August 10.
