How to Get to São Jorge Island by Plane

To reach São Jorge Island by plane, you must make a stopover on another island in the archipelago. The shortest route includes a stop on one of these two islands: São Miguel or Terceira.

How to get to São Jorge Island by plane

You can travel to the Azores from mainland Portugal with airlines such as Azores Airlines or TAP Air Portugal.

From Lisbon

There are daily flights departing from Lisbon. To reach São Jorge, you will need to make a stopover on São Miguel or Terceira Island. Some options involve three connections, which we only recommend if you find a significantly lower price and don’t mind the route Lisbon > São Miguel > Terceira > São Jorge.

The return journey follows the same pattern, with similar options available.

From Porto

From Porto, there is typically one layover option, with São Miguel being the only available stop. You could also route through Terceira, but this would still require a transfer in São Miguel, making for a longer journey unless you find a more affordable ticket and don’t mind additional stops.

⚠️  These are the available flight options to reach São Jorge Island with the fewest layovers from Lisbon and Porto.

You may then take an inter-island flight from one of these islands to continue your journey:

  • From Lisbon, there are direct flights to the islands of São Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico, and Faial.
  • From Porto, there are direct flights to São Miguel and Terceira.

From Other Islands

Alternatively, you can choose inter-island flights from another island. Start your journey to any island (see connections above), then take an inter-island flight operated by Sata Azores Airlines. Check all information on their website.
