Today, we share the step-by-step recipe provided by our dear Leonor Santos from the YouTube channel Sabor dos Açores, who has delighted us with numerous recipes for various dishes and sweets from the Azores.

Ingredients

  • 500g Corn Flour;
  • 500g Wheat Flour;
  • 500g Sugar;
  • 1 tablespoon of lard;
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder;
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda;
  • 1 teaspoon of salt;
  • 1 lemon;
  • 6 eggs;
  • 200g Cow Butter (alternatively, use Lard).

Preparation Method

  1. In a mixer or bowl, combine the sugar, butter (optionally melt it a little), and lard, and beat for one minute;
  2. Add the eggs and continue beating.
  3. Now add the flours, baking soda, and baking powder, and mix well.
  4. Add the flour to the previously beaten mixture. Mix everything well until all ingredients are combined.
  5. Using a piping bag with a star tip, pipe the carrilhos onto a baking tray (see the video for how to do this);
  6. Place in the oven at 180ºC until cooked/golden.
  7. Once baked, let them cool and store them in jars or a closed container.
