Salto do Cabrito – São Miguel Island

The island of São Miguel is stunning. Its interior is filled with waterfalls, streams, craters, and consequently, there are various outdoor activities that allow you to explore all these natural attractions even further.

The Salto do Cabrito Waterfall is one of these hidden beauties of São Miguel Island. It is located in the municipality of Ribeira Grande and is a beautiful waterfall. Access can be made on foot or by car.

Hiking Trail

The Salto do Cabrito Trail begins and ends near the Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande. The trail is a dirt path surrounded by abundant nature. Along the way, you will pass by the Fajã do Redondo, several craters, and a wild and well-preserved nature.

The route takes about three hours, depending on the pace of each person. This trail has some challenges, including steep inclines. For those with difficulty with steep ascents and descents, it is recommended to drive.

Equipment

For the hike, it is recommended to wear suitable equipment for a better experience of the activity:

• Comfortable clothing;
• Sturdy-soled shoes;
• Swimsuit;
• Towel;
• Sunblock;
• Bag to keep electronic devices;
• Camera;

Since the trail is of medium difficulty and quite long, it is advisable to bring appropriate gear to ensure a better experience and avoid problems along the way.

Located in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, this waterfall is uniquely beautiful and will surely captivate those who visit it.

For those who choose not to hike, you can access it by car; simply drive up and park about 50 meters from the waterfall.

The waterfall drops about 40 meters, and its waters are crystal clear, perfect for a refreshing swim. Arriving at the waterfall after a long walk is rewarding.

For those who want a view from above, there is a staircase next to the waterfall that leads to a spectacular viewpoint where you can appreciate all the beauty in the surroundings.

The area around the waterfall is tranquil and ideal for a relaxing stroll. While some prefer to drive, the path that winds through the forest and various spectacular locations on the island is definitely worth experiencing.
