Pico – The Mountain in the Middle of the Sea
Born from lava and sculpted by the elements, this island’s rugged landscape is also a monument to human ingenuity and imagination, creating sustenance almost from nothing.
São Jorge – Paradise on a Fajã
It’s worth remembering the name of these geographical features, one of the biggest attractions of this territory, made of high cliffs and important escarpments, where the sky meets the sea.
Graciosa – An Island of Many Names and Even More Charms
At first glance, it seems like the poor relative of the central group, forgotten far away, only within reach of a glimpse. But it is just a camouflage, created by a past of isolation, which fades away as soon as you set foot on solid ground and face the landscapes, heritage, and traditions.
Flores – Dive into Nature
The green of the landscapes, the pink of the azaleas, the black of the basalt rock… Walking through it, you absorb all the shades of the island that is a feast for the senses.
Corvo – The Best Kept Secret
In this tiny piece of land lost in the Atlantic, uniqueness is not just synonymous with what is measured in units. A single hospitable village. A single stunning caldera. It also means the exceptional experiences that the island offers.
São Miguel – One Island, Many Greens
Land of black sand beaches, volcanic lagoons, hot thermal waters, and walking trails – on the largest island of the archipelago, Nature continues to be the best feature. Besides the locals, of course.
Santa Maria – Returning to the Cradle
On the oldest of the Azores islands, there are white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, as well as mountains with a “red desert” and laurel forests. An immense diversity on an island ready to be explored. Preferably on foot.
Terceira – In Natural State
Although it is the second most populous island in the Azores, it is also the one that best preserves its original landscape. Here you will find the largest patches of endemic forest in the entire archipelago, some untouched by humans.
Faial – The Island of Volcanoes
In the eternal equation between space and time, Faial challenges the logic of physics, condensing about 800 thousand years into just over 30 kilometers in length. It is not the largest island in the Azores, nor the highest or the farthest, but it is perhaps the one that best summarizes all the charms of this archipelago, shaped by fire, in the middle of the ocean.
This special edition is now available on newsstands, as announced on the Visão website by its Executive Director, Rui Tavares Guedes. The images were also taken from the magazine’s website.
