Blue Well – Achadinha, São Miguel Island

The Blue Well, located in Achadinha, in the municipality of Nordeste on the São Miguel Island, is one of the most sought-after locations of interest and places to visit on the green island. Its crystal-clear water with a bluish tint leaves no one indifferent to its natural beauty.

This location is accessible via an easy to medium difficulty hiking trail. One of the most desired points along the trail is, in fact, the arrival at the famous Blue Well. But there is more to explore. See below for the available options.

Where is it?

As mentioned, it is located in the parish of Achadinha in Nordeste and can be accessed in three ways. You can take its own trail (visit only the Blue Well) or take the longer trails, such as the Padrão das Alminhas Trail or Terras do Nosso Senhor, which also pass by the Blue Well.

How to Get to the Blue Well

“Blue Well Trail”

This is not exactly a trail, but an option for those who wish to only visit the Well. The starting point begins at the historical Padrão das Alminhas in the center of Achadinha. Upon reaching this location, you will find signage for the “Trail / Blue Well.” Watch the complete trail in the video below.

Terras do Nosso Senhor Trail

In fact, the Blue Well is included in this trail; however, many people prefer to visit the Well and return to the starting point, hence the name of the trail above. The starting point is the same as the previous one. Learn more about the trail on this page.

Padrão das Alminhas Trail
