One of the most popular attractions among tourists visiting Flores Island is the Cascata do Poço do Bacalhau, a stupendous waterfall measuring 90 meters high, located in the parish of Fajã Grande.

The clear, refreshing water accumulates in a natural pool, much sought after by visitors to the region.

Access to the Poço do Bacalhau Waterfall is via a well-maintained trail that allows you to reach the pool easily, and on the way, you can admire the – unparalleled – beauty of the waterfall that emerges from the stone wall.

A place of untouched nature

As with the entire Flores Island, the Fajã Grande region, where the Poço do Bacalhau Waterfall is located, is an environmental protection area, and since 2009 it has been part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. This classification allows the unique characteristics of the region to remain untouched, such as vegetation, flora and fauna, which delight visitors.

The Island, with its just over 4000 permanent inhabitants, receives thousands of other tourists annually, mainly in the summer and a visit to the Poço do Bacalhau Waterfall is one of the mandatory itineraries for visitors. The more conservative are content to observe the majestic waterfall, while the
more adventurous people do not refuse a good swim in the clear waters of the natural pool excavated by the force of the waters.

The water flow follows its course through a stream until it meets the sea, making the landscape even more bucolic and spectacular.
