History

Almoxarife Beach is well-known for an event that took place in 1465. That year, a group of Flemish arrived on Faial Island to occupy it. Joss Van Hurtere, along with 15 other Flemish, were the first to settle on Faial Island. The beach is situated between Lomba da Espalamaca and Lomba do Frades, and the parish received its name in honor of a warehouse keeper who had properties in the area.

The first settlers decided to establish their residence at Lomba dos Frades, but later moved and settled permanently in Porto Pim.
