Viewpoints of Ponta da Madrugada and Ponta do Sossego
When visiting the municipality of Nordeste, on the São Miguel Island, there are two mythical viewpoints that you must include in your itinerary as must-visit locations: Miradouro da Ponta da Madrugada and Miradouro do Sossego.
You have certainly seen images of both viewpoints, as they are very flower-filled and are a hallmark of Nordeste.

Miradouro da Ponta da Madrugada

The Miradouro da Ponta da Madrugada gets its name for being considered the best spot on São Miguel Island to observe the sunrise. Located at Lomba da Pedreira, it attracts many locals and tourists who stay overnight to witness the sunrise.
With a view of the Serra da Tronqueira, this viewpoint features several gardens with various species of flowers that decorate the entire area. There is also a leisure and picnic area, complete with barbecue facilities for a fun time with friends and family.

Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego
The Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego is not far from Ponta da Madrugada and is also distinguished by its beautiful gardens. Its name reflects the serenity that is felt in this space. From here, you can also observe Fajã do Araújo and Praia do Lombo Gordo.

Both gardens of these viewpoints also feature typical endemic flora of the Macaronesia. The cleanliness and care in the maintenance of both spaces is very evident, making these beautiful viewpoints some of the most stunning in the Azores.
