Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo seen from the sky – simply magnificent images

The Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo is a small paradise, situated opposite the town of Vila Franca do Campo, about 1 km from the coast. This spot is the result of the crater of an ancient submerged volcano and is one of the main tourist attractions on the island of São Miguel, especially since one of the stages of the Red Bull Cliff Diving – the world cliff diving championship – was held here.

Classified as a Nature Reserve, the walls of its crater are covered with endemic vegetation, while inside there is a natural pool with an almost perfectly circular shape, which communicates with the sea through a narrow passage. This opening is designated as Boquete and faces North, towards the island’s coast, which prevents the sea’s agitation from entering the interior. Its crystal-clear waters and the small, yet charming beach, are excellent for swimming and diving.
