The trail starts at Porto do Calhau, in the parish of Piedade, at the eastern tip of Pico. Begin by climbing along the asphalt for approximately 200 metres and turn left onto the path that passes by the Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Cima da Rocha, built in 1854.

From here, let the markings on the ground guide you for about 2 kilometres, along shortcuts that cross vineyards and pass by the old stone houses that once supported wine cultivation.

Next, the route follows close to the sea, over basaltic stone slabs, on very uneven ground. After approximately 1.5 kilometres, climb the stairway and continue along the bagacina lane until you reach the houses of Engrade.

In Engrade you have two options. You can go directly to Manhenha via the asphalt section that leads to the lighthouse, or follow the path to the left, taking a shortcut that winds around some bays until you reach the Manhenha lighthouse, which should also be passed on the left side.

When you return to the asphalt, continue for another 700 metres until you reach Porto da Manhenha, where the trail ends.
