Lomba da Fazenda

This circular route unfolds in the parish of Lomba da Fazenda, in the municipality of Nordeste, and connects several local points of interest. The starting point is the garden next to the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. From here, you follow the road and turn left towards the Camping Park.

Upon reaching the bottom of the descent, you cross the Ribeira do Guilherme, where you can still see old mills and a fountain from 1982. Then begins an uphill section, made between Japanese cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica), incense trees (Pittosporum undulatum) and acacias (Acacia melanoxylon). At the top, those who wish can detour to the right to visit the village of Nordeste; otherwise, you descend towards the bathing area of Boca da Ribeira.

The walk continues along the cliff edge, on an earth path that crosses cultivated fields and pastures until reaching the coastal strip. Following the signage and crossing a stream, you reach the Pelado Endemic Plants Park, whose name comes from the low-growing endemic vegetation that grows on this arid terrain and is properly identified throughout the space.

The trail continues along the coast and passes a detour to the port, once used to unload supplies. Then, it reaches the paved road leading to Lomba da Fazenda. Just before the end, a right turn leads to Morgada Park, a picnic and rest area where old laundry washing basins are preserved. It’s worth exploring it before returning to the centre of the parish and the starting point, where the walk ends.
