Ilhéu da Praia

Off the coast of Graciosa, Ilhéu da Praia holds a right-hand point break designed for those who have seen everything the ocean has to offer. The take-off is vertical, right on top of a rocky ledge, and from there the wave wall runs along the islet, from north to south, forming large and tubular waves that can reach 3 metres.

The pico works best with swell from north to nordeste and southwest wind, at mid-tide and with the tide coming in. Since the bottom is rocky and the wave has power, this is a spot reserved for experienced and professional surfers, not for those still building confidence in consequential waves.

Before planning your session, it’s worth knowing two things. The islet is located within a protected reserve area, so it is mandatory to request authorisation from the local environmental services. Additionally, it is far from the coast, which makes a boat essential, both to reach the pico and to provide support during your surf.
