Spot details
On the coast of São Miguel, Fajã do Calhau is a windsurfing spot designed especially for those who enjoy Freestyle and Slalom. You can reach it from the parish of Água Retorta, and it’s during summer that this hidden corner is at its best, making it a great choice for the warmer months.
In terms of conditions, the spot starts working when wind from the Nordeste quadrant blows from 15 knots onwards. With this wind established, there’s space here to practise manoeuvres or simply gain speed in slalom runs.
A practical tip before entering the water: both entry and exit are made across the rocks that border the coast. At low tide, this passage can become challenging, especially for those with little experience, so it’s worth assessing the tidal conditions carefully before setting up your equipment.
