In Graciosa, Baia da Barra is a reef break with a rocky bottom that breaks both ways, offering left and right-hand waves from the same pico. Entry and exit from the water are made via the Naval Club ramp, followed by a long paddle out to the break zone, or alternatively by jumping from the rocks on a small shelf situated to the right of the wave. Access to the spot is by car.

The wave has two distinct take-off zones. When the sea is larger, the take-off happens further outside, with an accessible drop. On the inside, the take-off is more vertical, performed on top of the shelf, and then opens into a tubular section. On these bigger days the right tends to close out, while the left gains much quality. With smaller swell, the right becomes an ideal option for those taking their first steps in surfing.

The spot works best at low tide or mid-tide, with northwest to north swell and west, northwest or southwest wind. The waves typically range between 1 and 3 metres, making Baia da Barra a versatile pico, with conditions for beginners, intermediates and experienced surfers, depending on the day.
