Anjos

In Baía dos Anjos, in Santa Maria, you’ll find the most well-known point break in the area, and also the one with the best quality. The pico breaks right in front of the car park of the beach area, so getting there by car is straightforward and you can read the sea as soon as you arrive. The wave is a full right-hander, with a strong take-off that opens up space for committed manoeuvres.

It works best with swell from north to nordeste and wind from south to southeast, between mid-tide and high tide, with sizes around 2 to 3 metres. The bottom is rocky, and on smaller days extra caution is advisable: rock heads can appear at the surface on the inside.

To enter and exit the water, the usual route is across the rocks in front of the pico. When the sea is bigger, it’s preferable to use the swimming pool or the fishing port, both located to the west. Given the bottom, the entries, and the size it can reach, this is a spot suited for intermediate to experienced surfers.
