Baixa de Entre-Morros

In the sheltered cove of Baía de Entre-Morros, in São Jorge, this dive site is located approximately five minutes by boat from Porto das Velas. The descent begins near a well-defined islet, nestled against the Morro cliff wall, and extends to around 10 metres. With weak currents and an accessible profile for Open Water level, it is a natural choice for baptism dives, night dives, and snorkelling sessions.

Around the islet, life concentrates on the rock walls. Schools of salema (Sarpa salpa) pass through and you can see large quantities of damselfish (Chromis limbata and Abudefduf luridus). As you explore the crevices, various species of moray eels appear, as well as octopuses (Octopus vulgaris).

Heading towards the centre of the bay, the seabed gradually deepens and gives way to large boulders, eventually ending in a sandy area around 21 metres. It is precisely in the zone where rock meets sand that flatfish (Bothus podas), lizardfish (Synodus saurus) and, occasionally, eagle rays (Taeniura grabata) tend to appear.

In the more open waters, there is also the possibility of encountering pelagic species, such as Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda), barracuda (Sphyraena viridensis) and grey triggerfish (Balistes capriscus).
