Corvo Island – Thing to do and places to see
Corvo Island is located in the archipelago of the Azores and is considered the smallest island when compared to the others, possessing only 17 km².
Its origin is directly linked to the volcanic phenomena that occurred in the past, being formed by a volcanic polygenetic building, with a boiler at the top and secondary cones.
The last volcanic eruption that occurred in the region was for thousands of years (about 80 to 100 thousand years), in the lava fajã of Vila do Corvo . The main highlights of the historical formation of this beautiful island are: the Cova Vermelha , the Fajã Lávica and Ponta Negra .

Historical highlights
Cova Vermelha
The Cova Vermelha corresponds to the zone of the Coroinha crater, basically formed by thin red ashes and lapili, known as bagacina. This magnificent crater is located to the south, where the lava flows that appeared on top of the above were launched.
Fajã Lávica
The Fajã Lávica is in Vila do Corvo, becoming the main flattened surface of the island, originating from the drainage of Morro da Fonte. The characteristic feature is the surface covered by deposits of pumice, lahars and other pyroclastic deposits related to the formation of the Caldeirão.
Ponta Negra
Finally, Ponta Negra is composed of basalts emitted since the last eruptive episode occurred in Corvo Island, since its lava flows passed through the fajã, Alto dos Moinhos and reached the sea.
Besides these historical highlights that are part of the Corvo Island formation, several other points draw attention to its natural beauties and tourist attractions.
Let’s see below the main places that deserve your visit:

Praia da Areia / Portinho da Areia
Praia da Areia, also called Portinho da Areia, is located on the south coast of Corvo Island and is the only sandy beach on the island, making it a great option for all visitors who like to bathe, with waters clean and transparent.
The interesting part of this beach is that its sandstones are formed by small grains whose origin comes from the decomposition of the volcanic rocks. Worth checking out!
